Jose M. Broudwiack is not a registered sex offender. Not because he shouldn't be, but because he has repeatedly failed to follow the court order given to him that he register. Of course, given the fact that he is also an illegal alien that has crossed the border without any regard for the laws concerning that... we really can't be all that shocked that he's also failing to follow other laws.
Broudwiack, 48, of 2 Sugar Hill Road in the Purdys section of town, is a previously deported felon from California who re-entered the country illegally, state police said.
He moved to Sugar Hill Road about two years ago but failed to register as a sex offender with police, as required by law, police said. Investigator Cornelius Merritt of the Somers barracks charged him Wednesday with failing to register, a misdemeanor.
Police said Broudwiack was convicted in 1999 in Los Angeles County of lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14. He served a brief stint in prison, was made to register as a sex offender in California and ultimately deported to his native Peru in May 2000. He re-entered the country illegally in the past few years, police said.
It wouldn't be so upsetting as his recent arrest provided us with the chance to clean up a little, and get what should have been done years ago, done.
Except that rather than keeping him locked up, or even handing him over to ICE... the judge in the case gift wrapped a pitiful $10,000 bail, which was paid. Broudwiack then walked out of court, with nothing more than a hearing date set.
I wonder what the chances are that he'll show up.
I'd say it's time to get the judge out of there, but:
Johnston is running unopposed for re-election Tuesday.
That's even more pitiful than the bail amount.
